Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend good online resources that show bouncing balls with personality. I have the Survival Kit, but wanted to actually look at some for reference. Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks!

Check out Cameron Miyasaki's website and do a search for Animation Mentor blogs.  You should find a bunch of examples.

I was going to recommend him too a few days ago, but when I went to his site, I couldn't download the bouncing ball video.

Thanks for the advice, but I am still having a hard time finding examples. So far the best ones I have found are by looking at Animation Mentor blogs, but they can be really hit or miss. Alot of the links have been pulled down as well. If you think of any other places to look, that would be great! At this point I would also settle for reading references that talk about how to give a ball personality, i.e how a "happy" ball bounces as opposed to a "sad" ball.

Hey Joe,

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any resources that talk about giving personality to a ball specifically ( because I'm trying to think of some.)  What you will find everywhere are resources that talk about giving life and personality to inanimate objects.

Okay so think of it simply, what are some of the aspects that help you to distiniguish a happy little boy from a melancholy one?  You'd expect a happier kid to be boucing of walls and maybe he'd have a little spring to his step.  Faster movements maybe? A sadder one would be  a little slower and mopier right?  Maybe minimal movement?  Not as bouncy?

However cryptic that example may be, my point is to think of familiar instances you've observed in life of people behaving in certain ways, and try to mimic that with your inanimate object you have on your screen, or in your case, a ball.

Good luck.

ps, have you tried Cameron Miyasaki?
just kiddin.
