In another round of layoffs, Disney announced on Friday that 160 people from the WDFA crew will be let go. That adds up to approximately 20% of the total staff at the Burbank facility. This latest slimming is a result of Meet The Robinsons coming to an end, and Disney shifting to an even more production-hire oriented studio. A core group will remain from Robinsons and shift to other projects, while the rest of the future crews will be made up of show hires. This crew cut also comes along with the announcement that Disney will no longer be sticking to a one-feature-per-year release schedule. Instead, each film will dictate a different production schedule. That decision necessitated a staff reduction.
