Puss in Boots, an upcoming CG project from DreamWorks will now be released in theaters sometime after Shrek 4 (yes, Shrek 4). This property was originally set to be a direct-to-video movie, but has graduated up to a feature production.
"'Puss in Boots' is a unique creative property that has the potential to be a valuable extension of the 'Shrek' franchise," stated Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation. "We are excited to be developing this into a feature film where we think it has the greatest opportunity."
The theatrical release slate for 2009 has also been announced. In the summer of that year, we should see Monsters vs. Aliens, an original concept from DWA. While previously announced How to Train Your Dragon is scheduled for the 2009 holiday season.
DWA also announced a partnership with Nickelodeon to create television series based on DWA theatrical properties. The first will be based on the penguin characters from Madagascar, while another is said to involved the characters from Kung Fu Panda.
