The Ant Bully from Warner Brothers/DNA has moved up its opening date from August 4th to July 28th. This is reportedly in reaction to Barnyard moving from July 28th to August 4th. The Ant Bully tells a witty and heartwarming story about a 10-year-old boy who embarks on a remarkable journey. New in town, friendless and tormented by a neighborhood bully, young Lucas Nickle has been taking out his frustration on the innocent ant hill in his yard. But one day the ants retaliate. Using a magic potion, they shrink Lucas down to ant size and sentence him to live like an ant in their colony. In this strange new world Lucas will learn important lessons about friendship, get a whole new perspective on life and ultimately find the courage to stand up for himself. Barnyard is a lighthearted tale centering around Otis (voiced by Kevin James), a carefree party cow, who enjoys singing, dancing and playing tricks on humans. Unlike his father Ben (voiced by Sam Elliott), the respected patriarch of the farm, and Miles, the wise old mule (voiced by Danny Glover), Otis is unconcerned about keeping the animals' humanlike talents a secret. But when suddenly put in the position of responsibility, the "udderly" irresponsible cow finds the courage to be a leader.

Animated shorts are seeing a resurgence of late. Disney and DreamWorks are among the studios joining Pixar — which has been regularly producing shorts for years — with an increased focus on the format. They view shorts as a way to develop talent, test technology and stretch creatively. At the same time, demand for short content is likely to increase with the rise of new distribution technologies, such as cell phones and video iPods. In fact, this is already happening to some extent, although studios suggest these platforms are not a priority for their short-film programs yet. VFXWorld posted a lengthy article about the recent resurgence of producing animated short films. You can read the entire story by following this link .
