Monster House, the new CG animated/mocap film releases on July 21st. Taking advantage of non traditional forms of marketing, Sony has been posting television spots for the movie on youTube, and has even built up some real-estate on mySpace. Additionally, the main characters of the film have their on mySpace profiles and pages to produce more interest in their films.

Side Effects Software announced the release of Houdini 8.1. This new version features an animator-friendly Auto Rig, Muscle System, Character Picker and Pose Library. Enhancements to the Rigid Body and Wire dynamic solvers and support for the importing of Collada files are also included in this latest release. An un-official blog displaying the artwork of Disney Animator/Director Glen Keane has emerged. Titled "The Art of Glen Keane", the blog has dozens of drawings made by Glen over the years for several Disney films. Also included are character studies and figure drawings.

It is reported that Jeffrey Katzenburg came to actor Ian McShane and asked him to be a voice in the CG feature Kung Fu Panda. It isn't uncommon for studios to animate tests with an actors voice to not only see if the voice fits, but to help convince the actor to take the gig. In a strange animated test by the DWA crew, they animated what could be an R-Rated scene.

 If any woman can whip Jack Black into shape, Angelina Jolie can. The world's most-photographed Oscar winner/mother/Brad Pitt companion has just joined the cast of DreamWorks' animated comedy Kung Fu Panda. The movie is due in theaters in May 2008.
