Pixar recently finished a 5 minute short film titled Lifted. The project is about a bumbling young alien student from a distant world tests the patience of an increasingly weary instructor as he attempts a first-time abduction of a innocently slumbering farmer. The short is rumored to be directed by Gary Rydstrom, a sound designer turned Pixar director.

Everyone's Hero opened in third place with $6.15 million. Starz Animation, the company that was formed by Liberty Media after it was purchased from IDT- will release Space Chimps and Sheepish in 2007 and 2008 respectively. UPDATED: Reuters distributed a story about the film and the original director Christopher Reeve.

Rob Minkoff (The Lion King, Stuart Little 1 and 2) is set to direct a feature length CG project for DreamWorks starring the 50's cartoon characters, Peabody and Sherman. The two were time traveling characters that were part of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show. Minkoff will direct, with Jason Clark producing. There is no announcement on a release date for the film.

Coming in Spring of 2008, Blue Sky will release another CG film called Horton Hears a Who. Some of those providing voices include Jim Carrey and Steve Carell. Carrey will play Horton, an elephant who hears the cries from a tiny civilization living on a speck of dust. Carell will play the mayor of Who-ville.

After a decade of creating digital characters for such live-action movies as "Spider-Man" and "Stuart Little," Sony Pictures Entertainment is drawing on a new electronic canvas. On Sept. 29, the company will formally plunge into the crowded world of computer-animated features when it premieres the first of four movies, "Open Season." The comedy, featuring the voices of actors Martin Lawrence and Ashton Kutcher, chronicles a ragtag pack of animals turning the tables on a group of hunters.
